Hazrat Salaheddin Ali Nader Angha, Pir Oveyssi, teaches that "each human being is a true and comprehensive unit of Existence," and "discovery of the “I”, the source of knowledge within, enables him to begin the journey of self-knowledge and know all aspects of his being in unity."

Sufism emphasizes the cognition of the human being in its totality. Both the physical and spiritual dimensions, the mind and the heart, the explicit and implicit aspects, must be cognized. Sufism does not consider the mind and heart as two separate entities. Rather, it focuses on facilitating the connection of these two vast resources together and recognizes the human being as an integrated entity.

"Enlighten the channel that extends from your heart to your brain and do not allow the heart and the brain to live apart, like two unfriendly neighbors unaware of each unity."1

Uniting the mind and heart is possible only when the individual is in harmony and is connected to the essence of existence and its attractive field. This is facilitated by the cognition and discovery of the center of the "I". According to the teachings of Maktab Tarighat Oveyssi Shahmaghsoudi®, School of Sufism®, the human system has a built-in mechanism that is equipped with 13 electromagnetic centers whose function is vital to the metaphysical, spiritual and general well-being of the individual. The most important of these centers resides in the heart. Molana Shah Maghsoud Sadegh Angha has referred to it as the "I", or the "Source of Life." Discovery of the "I" and its attractive field is essential in cognizing the true self.

This attractive field is a powerful magnetic field. When we move beyond limitations imposed on our senses and concentrate our energies on the center of the "I", we are able to access our magnetic field of energy and connect to the attractive field of existence. In Sufism, this attractive field is called "love." It is the love that connects all aspects of existence to each other. Molana Shah Maghsoud Sadegh Angha states: "Love is an all–pervading electromagnetic force, which unites and connects all aspects of existence from the smallest particle to the whole infinite universe."2

This attraction occurs at the center of the "I" in the heart of the seeker, and from there pervades his entire being. This center functions as a magnet that captures all energies, love and attraction that exist in the universe. The point of union of the two worlds, or the "I", is embedded within us and is "awakened" through meditation and prayer, whereby the pathway between the heart and brain becomes illuminated. This is how the mind and heart are united.

The journey of self-knowledge requires the presence of the Arif, or the spiritual master, and a road map to the eternal dimension. The Arif is one who has already attained knowledge of reality, and can guide the seekers to overcome the obstacles of their journey toward self-knowledge. Safieddin Ardebili, the renowned 8th century Sufi, said: "The one who goes on this journey on his own will drown in the mirage of the self. The body is nourished from the elements and the soul is nourished in hearing the words and heeding the guidance of the enlightened ones."
